The KAWUN Institute of Higher Education is private higher educational institution that has been established in 2014 and is committed to deliver high standard and quality bachelor degree programs in three fields, 1) Midwifery, 2) Economy and 3) Law & Political Science in Balkh province.
Despite bachelor programs, KAWUN provides extra-curriculum initiatives such as short term customized professional development capacity building trainings for students and young generation in Balkh province – Below is highlight of successful implemented and ongoing human development programs:
- Afghanistan Workforce Development Program (AWDP)
USAID-funded AWDP sought to increase job placement and wages by strengthening the labor pool in major economic areas and addressing the difficulties of high unemployment scarcity of technically-skilled Afghan labor, and trained business managers.

- Curriculum development/adaptation
- Competency-based market-driven trainings
- Employment placement services
- Career Counseling Center
Under this program, KAUWN Institute of Higher Education implemented 4-grants and delivered abovementioned services for over 800 beneficiaries in the targeted (Kabul & Balkh) provinces
- Promote: Women’s Leadership Development Program (WLD)
USAID-funded Promote Women’s Leadership Development (WLD) program is designed to build the confidence of Afghanistan’s most talented young women to encourage them to participate fully in society and become future leaders in the public and private sector.
Activities:
Provided leadership and entrepreneurship training to women who have a minimum high school diploma – Under this program, over 1200 young Afghan women were provide with leadership training and practical entrepreneurship program.
- Promote: Women in the Economy (WIE)
USAID-funded Promote – Women in the Economy is designed to secure the gains made by Afghan women in the past decade while providing a new generation of Afghan women with the leadership skills to make vital contribution to Afghanistan’s development in governance, civil society, and the economy.
Activities:
- Provide training and technical assistance to address business needs; make referral to business services providers and help female business owners and managers to foster the growth of skilled female employees
- Encourage private companies to improve the workplace environment for women and expand female staffing
Under this grant, KAWUN Institute of Higher Education provided the abovementioned activities to over 200 young girls and women, over 45 per cent of the project beneficiaries were provided with employment placement services
- Assistant for the Development of Afghan Legal Access and Transparency (ADALAT)
Under USAID-funded ADALAT program, KAWUN Institute of Higher Education established a Legal Aid Services Center – Where KAWUN provides practical clinical education for students and provides free legal aid services for the vulnerable people in Balkh province.
KAWUN Institute of Higher Education is located in Balkh province of Northern Afghanistan, and is the Afghanistan’s high access private institute of choice – KAUWN serves the young generation of Northern Region with standard and equipped educational campus. With a growing enrolment, KAWUN attracts students from throughout the region, as well as from other regions of the country. KAWUN targets to be named “Best in the North” and Best Midwifery, Business and Law” school in Northern Afghanistan.
In a country like Afghanistan, higher education is perceived as extremely important tool of getting good jobs, better lifestyles and prosperous living environments. Currently, Afghanistan is highly in demand of skilled and professional human resources in order to further the living condition and generate the income sources – to this extend KIHE as a center of excellence, straggles to underway programs with innovative and uniquely hands-on approach to the enrolled students of this center of excellence and prepare them to be technical workforce for the country and fulfill the gap that needs to be covered.
